FAX
Short for Facsimile, this is a method of sending image data across the standard phone line to another fax machine. Fax was the fore runner to email with a huge number of businesses sending vast quantities of copied original documents to their associates and clients alike.
The method used to transmit data has not changed much in recent years however with advances in computer telephony integration (see CTI), solutions now exist where users can transmit fax data direct from their workstations and indeed enterprise wide through a central fax solution (see Enterprise Fax).
